Clémence Ross biographie

Born in Montreal, Clémence Ross is an emerging artist whose practice focuses on glass. She is currently completing a college diploma in craft arts, with a specialization in glass, at Espace Verre, Montreal. She also completed an advanced training with Caroline Couture in recycled glass in 2024. In the summer of 2025, she works at Lumel Studios, in Yukon, where she develops her skills in glass blowing production and teaching. She has also worked as a blown glass assistant alongside various artists, such as Catherine Labonté and Jean-Simon Trottier.

Artistic statement

My artistic practice encompasses various mediums, particularly glass. I work primarily with blown glass and flameworking techniques. It also includes visual arts, such as watercolour, pencil, and marker drawing. These experimentations enrich my glass work by helping me reflect on forms, colours, and compositions.

The central theme of my work revolves around an imaginary and absurd universe of my own creation. I seek to create expressive and decorative pieces that captivate through their details and whimsy. Through a childlike perspective, I play with colours and shapes to reinvent reality. I also draw inspiration from the organic quality of nature and design trends, to understand how certain forms, patterns, or hues can make my universes feel alive and welcoming.

My works evoke various artistic universes, notably that of Dr. Seuss, which fuels my interest in the absurd and in humour. One of the key ideas in my work is to preserve this playful spirit. As I grow older, I wish to hold onto the inventive freedom that defines me. When the world becomes too heavy, I need to create a lighter space. Imagination then allows me to transform reality rather than escape from it.

Through my works, I create imaginary environments rich in nuance, life, and soothing forms. This universe, which I shape and control, gives me a sense of well-being. I am captivated by the idea that imagination is limitless and unique to each person. Everyone carries within them a secret and infinite world, and I wish to share a fragment of mine. Nature inspires me in the same way, as it is free, balanced, creative, and in perpetual motion, reflecting my imaginary universes.

Through my work, I seek to awaken curiosity, to bring a smile, and to offer a space for escape and dreaming.
